The Hayward Perflex Above Ground D.E. Filter Systems are performance matched with the new Power-Flo Matrix (sku # 42237, 42250) pump series to ensure a system that maximizes its filtration ability. These advanced filtration systems are designed to operate with less resistance than conventional units, thus producing more filtered water with less pump horsepower. They provide the deepest, most efficient clean, removing dust and pollen as small as one micron (the average grain of sand is 1000 microns). Taking care of debris the first time through, you will run it fewer hours per day, adding up to big savings on energy usage.

The Perflex D.E. Filters patented Flex Tubes trap dirt and impurities as they pass through; when pressure builds and the flow is decreased an exclusive bump handle activates the Flex-Tubes, purging themselves of dirt and powder. This system cleans without backwashing or dismantling the filter, making it possible to drain the used diatomite, saving hundreds of gallons of treated pool water. A pump-to-filter union connection provides simple installation and winterization and the corrosion-proof ABS modular platform base accepts optional chlorine feeder and AutoTime timer. Diatomaceous earth is a porous powder with microscopic openings that when magnified look like tiny sponges. Clear water can pass through these openings, but particles, as small as one to three microns, are trapped during the first pass through the media. D.E. filters have internal elements that become coated with D.E. It is this 'filter cake' that strains dirt, dust, algae, and some forms of bacteria from the water. Similar to sand filters, when D.E. filters become dirty, they are cleaned either by backwashing, or regenerating and draining the clogged D.E. to the 'waste' line.
