Algae Control
Algae is a type of plant. They range in size from microscopic, one-celled plants such as plankton, to giant forms such as Pacific sea kelp, which can grow to more than 100 feet long. Algae have all the same needs as any common plant to survive: food and light. Algae produce food through a process called photosynthesis. In the presence of light, algae use a green pigment called chlorophyll to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) and water into carbohydrates (sugars) which provide nourishment for the algae. During this process, algae release oxygen. There are at least 21,000 different known kinds of algae. Of these, there are only 3 categories that grow in swimming pools and spas. There are only about 40-50 specific kinds of algae found in pools and spas.
